Okay, if you’ve never bought chickens before…this may sounds really crazy. When you buy baby chicks, they come in the mail – ALIVE! It’s the craziest thing! You get a call from the post office early in the morning and the postal person lets you know that you have a cheeping box of baby chicks sitting in their backroom. You’ve, of course, been waiting for this call and so you grab your car keys and jet to the post office to snag your chickies and then zoom them home so you can get them under a heat lamp pronto.
FUN FACT: Once chicks hatch they can survive for several days on the nutrients from their egg yolk.
This is what a box full of chicks sounds like…
And here’s what all the little cheepers look like as we unbox them. We’ll also show you what you gotta do once you get ’em to make sure they get off to a good start.
And…the not-so-glamorous job of baby chick upkeep…

Throwback to 2018
Waaaaaay back in May of 2018 we bought our first chickens-by-mail (and a few ducks too!). Here’s a video from way back then.
And our ducks from 2018 when they were teeny tiny little quackers going outside for the first time.
